The Silverstar Casino Resort will comprise three gaming venues – the main casino, smokers’ casino and a VIP casino.

Silverstar CasinoIt will also include banqueting and conference facilities, five restaurants, fast food court, bars, entertainment facilities and children’s games arcade.

In addition, the development will offer a 4- to 5-star hotel with health spa and pool – all overlooking extensive and unique water features.

Construction IndustryGrinaker-LTA Building managing director Neil Cloete says this is an exceptionally fast track project, with completion of the 54 000 m2 development scheduled for November 2007. “The most challenging aspect of this contract is the tight construction schedule,” he notes. With extensive experience in casino construction that includes the successful completion of Durban’s Sun Coast development, as well as Emperor’s Palace and Montecasino in Gauteng, Cloete says Grinaker-LTA is well-placed to meet the challenges at the Silverstar Casino Resort.

The contractor is also currently undertaking a substantial contract to refurbish Gold Reef City. This project includes a complete revamp of the existing casino, fast food areas and restaurants, as well as the construction of a new smoking casino and a 1 000-seater theatre. Also a fast-track project, it is scheduled for completion in October 2007.

Cloete says an unusual feature of the Silverstar casino complex is its “outward looking” design. “This differs from the traditional ‘inward looking’ casino, which serves to narrow the visitors’ focus exclusively towards the internal activities offered.” The Silverstar Casino Resort will have views of the natural Protea Ridge, and across the development’s memorable water features.

The development’s striking external façade will comprise feature plaster and paint combined with dry-packed stone.

The Silverstar Casino Resort and the upgrade of Gold Reef City Casino are being developed by Gold Reef Resorts and BEE partner Akani Leisure Investments.
