Work on the project include the resealing of the existing road and repairs to gravel shoulders and side drains. Maintenance work will also be done on all bridges and culverts along this stretch.
There will be half-width construction with stop/ go operations during the day and a traffic light system at night.
Motorists can expect weather-related delays.
The Department is committed to providing Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) work opportunities and to developing emerging contractor businesses. It is expected that a total of 5 500 person-days of work will have been created on the project for people living in the City of Cape Town municipal area.
A total of 12% of the contract value is earmarked for targeted contractor businesses in the Western Cape.
