Make a difference in the African landscape. Our client is a development company currently being formed to build towns for mining and oil companies whose operations create enough momentum for large scale mixed use property development. They are currently concluding negotiations to deliver a $300 million, 5-year township project for a leading mining company in Zambia.
Once established on this site, they will target the delivery of other new towns across Sub-Saharan Africa for the same and other clients. They are looking to appoint an experienced Development Director to head up the delivery of their first project, which will include 10,000 homes, retail, office, hospitality, light & heavy industrial as well as logistic areas across 6,700 hectares in the NorthWestern Province of Zambia. Just south of this new township, their client is building a $2 Billion mine which will be Africa\\\\\\\'s 2nd largest copper mine, conservatively employing 2,000 staff and 1,000 contractors with a purchasing power of over $100 million per annum. Although initially phased to accommodate all mining personnel, the developer and its client aim to establish a high quality, independent new town, with clinics, schools, recreational facilities and a police force which can also service the ongoing expansion in nickel mining nearby, and address the housing shortage in the region. A project of this scale will need to be led by a highly competent and experienced property professional who will have exposure across the property development chain, from design through leasing, construction and handover.
This demanding role requires a business and team leader who has a minimum of 20 years\\\\\\\' experience, and preferably has a strong track record in mixed use or township development in emerging markets, possibly in remote or rural areas. Responsible for the overall project delivery you will lead, develop and train consulting and full time teams, create business plans for asset development, control town planning and infrastructure development in conjunction with phasing and implementation as well as manage the related partner & PPP relationships.
Whilst they have already broken ground on the first phase of the residential, it will fall on you to develop and implement a controlling function to follow up on budgets, costs, schedules and quality in real time and manage subsequent phases. Compensation will be a market-based salary, incentive pay based on performance of property developments and, after the completion of a trial period, potentially partnership in the business. Over time there will be an opportunity for the right candidate to take on significantly increasing levels of responsibility, particularly in developing new business on the continent.
