A new school that will in time cater for all grades is being built on the site of the existing Elijah Christian School in Jeffreys Bay.

Principal Fanie Vermaak said the new Victory Christian School would cater for 500 pupils up to Grade 7 initially, but was designed to grow with demand to cater for pupils from Grade 0 all the way to Grade 12.

“This is really good news for the Kouga region, which is growing. There is a definite need for more classrooms and teachers in order to attract young families to the area – and to keep them here,” he said.

Work has already started on a new multi-million rand building for the expanded school.

It was decided to name the school after the Victory Christian Church and to incorporate the 10-year-old Elijah Christian school to avoid confusion in the minds of parents.

“Victory is more than a doubling of the size of the existing school. We have taken years planning it and studying best practices in South Africa and Canada to build what we know as the ‘school of the future,‘” said Vermaak.

Described as a “mini-campus”, the Victory Christian School would serve the whole Kouga region, said Vermaak. It would follow the revised national curriculum to ensure that pupils would qualify for entry into tertiary institutions and other schools around the country.

“But the application of the curriculum is Bible-based. We follow a programme developed by the Association of Christian Schools International, of which we are a member.”

An open-air amphitheatre would provide a stage on which the children could perform, and would also serve as a facility for the community. Sports facilities were also being upgraded.
