Balfour Park Shopping Centre, situated on the corner of Athol and Johannesburg Roads in Highlands North, is set to undergo an upgrade and refurbishment commencing in February 2008

The much-anticipated revamp will see the injection of a breath of fresh air into the Investec-controlled shopping centre, which has been serving its patrons for the past 22 years.

“The development of the centre will ensure that Balfour Park caters adequately for all its customers and tenants in an environment that is both pleasant and functional, with family-orientation and convenience being the key factors in this regard,” says Ronnie Sevitz, from Investec Property Group. “The aim is to promote increased dwell time, while maintaining the element of convenience that the centre is associated with, and also ensuring that the centre is able to compete on a level that is matched to that of its newer competitors.”

Sevitz noted that as a long-standing member of the community, Balfour Park is committed to the improvement of security, both within the centre to ensure that the patrons, tenants and staff are safe, and in supporting the community security initiatives.

Currently, the double-tiered regional centre offers a GLA of 36,362m², and with over 100 stores offering a range of merchandise and services available. The upgrade will allow for the centre to reflect, and positively contribute towards, the ambience of the surrounding emerging community. A major focus of the development will take place in the banking sector, with the banks expanding and implementing their exciting new designs.

Sevitz noted that besides the tenant mix, the upgrade will see attention being focused on the internal aesthetics, namely the tiling, lighting, ceilings and the ablution facilities as well as the exterior feel and security of the centre as a whole.

“Over the past 22 years, Balfour Park has enjoyed the loyalty of its customers, both local residents and those of the neighbouring emerging markets, and in an effort to acknowledge their continued patronage, we will be giving back to the community,” says Sevitz. “The new Balfour Park will undoubtedly suit the needs and wants of our existing, and potential clientele.”
