At the recent SAPOA property awards, Design Quarter received the 2006 Retail Development Award in the Innovative Excellence in Property Development category

Design Quarter, conceptualised by Zenprop Property Holdings in conjunction with the cutting-edge approach of leading South African retailers, is positioned to roll out into both Durban and Cape Town.

The concept behind Design Quarter is to create experiential, niche retail within a creative space far beyond the classical shopping experience.  “Since Design Quarter’s launch late 2005, the property industry and consumers have embraced its timeless minimalist architecture, thereby setting a far higher standard of innovation for subsequent retail developments,” says Nicole Fischer, head of marketing for Zenprop.  “Being the recipient of this award is another testament to Design Quarter pioneering the changing face of retail developments in South Africa.”

Nominated by CNN as one of the top ‘must see places’ to visit in SA for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, Design Quarter is a ground-breaking concept shopping centre focused on décor and lifestyle products, incorporating a strong restaurant component.

Shopping & dining aside, Design Quarter’s avant-garde architecture accentuates our sunny skies with its industrial approach of raw steel, glass and open-air piazza. The architect Imraan Ho-Yee, now at the helm of retail design at Zenprop Property Holdings, has incorporated subtle landscaping and water features to synergistically blend man-made with organic forms and textures, all resulting in an awakening of  visitors’ senses.
