ApexHi Properties Limited (APA) has outsourced the management of its R120 million per annum electricity bill to utilities management specialists, Rural Maintenance (Pty) Ltd, for a period of 10 years, it said.

Rural was initially contracted to manage the utilities of 89 buildings for two years in order to correctly identify the users of electricity in the various buildings and to bill them appropriately.

"The service has proved to be so successful that ApexHi extended the contract. In fact, between June 2004 and now, the portfolio has risen from 237 buildings worth R3 billion to 421 buildings worth R8 billion while the net cost of electricity to ApexHi has remained almost unchanged," David Rice, ApexHi MD, said in a statement.
