This is the word from Coega spokesman Vuyelwa Vika-Qinga after the parastatal advertised the sale of a footbridge.

Vika-Qinga said the bridge had been advertised after the public showed interest in buying it.

"We received lots of requests about the bridge so we decided to sell it. Even if it was not sold, we would have found a way to do something else with it."

She said the footbridge over the Neptune interchange had been built in early 2003 when construction began on the first phase of the port.

The bridge was used by pedestrians as there were a lot of trucks carrying rocks from the quarry.

According to the advert, the footbridge comprises a prefabricated galvanised steel structure with timber decking and concrete foundations and approach ramps.

The length of the bridge is about 55m, with a centre span of about 20m and a clear height of about 5,5m. The walkway width is 2,4m.
