Vincent Park shopping centre's R105 million makeover will see 10 new shops added to the existing mall that is to be refashioned into an upmarket complex.

The tenants include names like NWJ jewellers, Rage, Oxygen, Green Cross, Le Creuset pots, Nino's coffee shop and Carol Boyes.

The aim is to give the mall an upmarket feel, said centre manager Joseph Parsley.

"The development currently under way at Vincent Park will take the gross lettable area to the maximum bulk limit. About 10 new shops will be created with the additional wing added to the building. It will be anchored by a Mr Price Mega store measuring 3544m2. Leasing on the new extensions are far advanced, with most of the space already let."

Parsley said foot traffic has already increased on average by five percent since construction started in May this year, while foot traffic was up by an average of seven percent to date compared to last year. The average monthly foot traffic tally is 762,000.

The contractor, Grinaker LTA, said it was currently in the process of building the new basement parking section with a 5000m2 deck to accommodate the new shops.

"A portion of the existing parking will be boarded off. Levels in this area will be reduced and retaining walls constructed around the perimeter of the parking, which is on average 3,5 metres below the surrounding road level," said contract director Greg Bradford.

The centre will receive new floor tiles, shop fronts, bulk heads, ceilings, lighting and all external facades and walkways will be refurbished.
