GREG Deans, Regional General Manager of BoE Corporate Property Finance Cape for the past two years, has been appointed Managing Director of Century City Ltd, the company developing the multi-billion rand Century City project in Cape Town.

Deans, who has been Acting Managing Director of the company for the past three months, brings with him a wealth of experience in the property field having worked as a developer, investor as well as financier.

During the early 1990s Deans ran his own development company in Gauteng after working as a contract surveyor and contracts manager involved in turnkey projects and international negotiations for Basil Read where he also served as Regional General Manager. He joined NBS Devco Transvaal as Regional Director in 1994 rising rapidly through the ranks and in 1996 was appointed Managing Director of NBS Devco, which later became BoE Property Ventures.

With both national and international experience in the property industry, Deans has a great deal of experience in the Township Establishment process, which is a key component to the development of Century City.

Deans has a passion for property and in particular Century City.

“I have an unshakeable belief in the vision of Century City and all that it imbues. I have no doubt as a city it will continue to grow from strength to strength and I relish the opportunity to play a part in that growth.”

A former provincial rugby player, Deans is fanatical about sport, both as a participant and a spectator. When his heavy work schedule permits he can be found training for a marathon or The Argus Cycle Tour, which he has completed no less than seven times. He has also notched up numerous marathons including the Comrades, Two Oceans and Iron Man.

Besides driving forward the development of Century City, he has another short-term ambition – to participate in some international marathons thus allowing him to combine two of his great passions, namely running and travel.

Chris Ball, chairman of Century City Ltd, said the board was delighted to have secured the services of someone of the calibre of Deans.

“The company has been through a difficult time recently and we know that he has all the necessary skills, experience, drive and commitment to successfully lead the company into the future and to unleash Century City’s full potential enabling it to become South Africa’s premier city.”

The appointment is effective as of November 1
