Properties worth R375 million will come under the hammer over three days next week in one of the largest multiple auctions ever hosted in South Africa.

Property-Housing-ResidentialNext week, Auction Alliance hosts the Pretoria, Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town Renaissance Multiple Auction road show where 53 investment properties will go to auction, including The Wheel shopping centre in Durban.

Mark Kleynhans, of Auction Alliance, said the auction of The Wheel was the opportunity of a lifetime for anyone with the business savvy to capitalise on the revitalisation of the Durban CBD.

The Wheel will be auctioned at the Park Hyatt in Johannesburg next Thursday, with live feeds to the Hilton Hotel in Durban and the Arabella Sheraton in Cape Town.

Other KwaZulu-Natal properties will be auctioned at the Protea Edward Hotel on Wednesday next week. These include 13 industrial and commercial properties.

Hein Hattingh, of Auction Alliance, said: "We have been inundated with inquiries from potential investors all over the country who are interested. This reflects the strong market in the commercial and industrial field."

Potential

Among the properties on auction is vacant land in Mount Edgecombe, which is close to the Gateway Shopping and Entertainment Complex, and which has obvious development potential.

A Cato Ridge property also has immense possibilities, owing to the large size of 5ha and 10 000m2 of warehousing, factory and office space.

Hattingh said: "We are fortunate to have properties with such great prospects on auction, as industrial land is in high demand in the greater Durban area. This is owing to the scarcity of the availability of prime development land."

Another exceptional investment on auction is the Umdoni shopping and office complex in Pinetown, which has an annual turnover of about R2.6 million.

Also on auction will be a massive, multi-level commercial and warehouse complex in Point Road, a big-five game farm and lodge opportunity in Mkhuze, a guest house in the Midlands, an office block just off Florida Road and a five-storey warehouse and factory in Clairwood.

Other auctions to be hosted next week are in Pretoria on Tuesday, where 10 properties are on offer. On Thursday, 14 properties will be sold in Cape Town and 16 in Johannesburg.
