The refurbishment of Killarney Mall, at a total cost of R90 million, is complete and the fresh new-look shopping centre will be ready to greet shoppers from Thursday, 27 October 2005.
Owned by Octodec Investments Limited, the R90 million redevelopment of Killarney Mall resulted in the centre being extended by 5,500m2 of retail space, of which 4,300m2 is occupied by Edgars, on a 10-year lease, which will also open on 27 October.
Furthermore 430 additional parking bays have been accommodated on two new parking decks, the construction of which will be complete the end of November.
Edgars, complete with an in-store Boardmans, is one of several new tenants to be introduced to the centre and, in conjunction with Killarney Mall’s enlargement and modernization, almost 90% of its existing shops upgraded and refurbished.
New and revamped stores at Killarney Mall include ABSA, ANAT, Aroma’s, Barbers at Killarney, Boyes @ Us, By Design, Cape Union Mart, Cappos, Edgars, Elegant Dry Cleaners, Flower & Garden Shed, FNB, Foschini, Glomail, Hair Art, Hayward Original Jewellers, House of Coffees, Huberto Ice Cream Palour, Indigo, Juicy Lucy, Koshika, Laurence Strouss Optometrists, Levingers, Manuka, Matis, Mr Price, MTN, Musica, Nathan Optometrists, Out of the Blue, Pen & Art, Perfect 10, Pick ‘n Pay, Post Office, Scent-Sation, Shirley’s, Spice of India, Standard Bank, Step Ahead, Sunglass Company, Sweets from Heaven, Truworths and Woolworths.
The refurbishment of Killarney Mall also resulted in Killarney Library benefiting new premises in the Banking Mall, with the entrance located between the post boxes and Old Mutual Bank.
The Post Office, another community service which has rent-free premises in Killarney Mall, has also been relocated to more visible premises, near its previous location, in the Banking Mall. It has undergone a complete re-vamp and upgrade, improving the services it offers to the community. In addition to funding this move to the value of R750,000.00, Killarney Mall contributed R2-million to create the new public facility for The Post Office.
In further enhancing its service to its shoppers, Killarney Mall will also be introducing new trading hours from 1 November when the mall will be open from 9am to 6pm on Mondays to Fridays, 8.30am to 5pm on Saturdays and 10am to 2pm on Sundays and public holidays. However, many restaurants and other stores will continue to open earlier and close later to accommodate their customers.
In keeping with Killarney Mall’s refreshed design, the shopping centre has also adopted a new advertising design which embraces an environmentally-friendly colour palette and introduces the new payoff line ‘Inspired choice’.
