Tenants at Tyger Valley Centre have taken legal advice over a sharp increase in rentals which they
were unable to meet.
They accused Engen, Eskom and Metropolitan Life, the co-owners of the centre, of increasing rental
by up to 70 percent. They also objected to the style of the centre's management, writes Business
Report.
Marcel Joubert, the spokesman for 120 tenants in the Tyger Valley Tenants' Association, said many
tenants were in urgent need of relief.
To meet their rental commitment, tenants would have to substantially increase their turnover, of
which they already paid up to 35 percent on rent.
Willem Nieman, managing director of Pareto, the property owning company of Eskom, said the tenants'
grievances were being attended to.
