Protea Hotels has announced that construction on their newest Cape hotel, estimated at a cost of R89 million, is underway and expected to open on time.

Protea Hotels has announced that construction on their newest Cape hotel, estimated at a cost of R89 million, is underway and expected to open on time. The Protea Hotel North Wharf, a 4-star Premier hotel is situated opposite the CTICC and will open mid-December this year, in time for the region’s busiest season. The hotel is being developed by Coranne group in partnership with Nedcor Property Partners, who believe that the city is now reaping the dividends from the rapidly growing use of the CITCC. “Construction on this new hotel began early this year, and is well on track. The mild winter conditions that the Cape is presently experiencing, has meant that we are on schedule and expect building to be completed on time,” said Bernard Cassar, Cape Regional Director for Protea Hotels.

On completion, the hotel will comprise of 59 one-bedroomed apartments as well as 7 two-bedroomed apartments, all of which include well-equipped kitchenettes and separate lounge/dining areas. In addition to these apartment bedrooms, the hotel will include 2 Penthouse Suites that boasts magnificent views of Table Mountain and the harbour. “This is the perfect positioning for both local and international visitors, due to it’s location in the heart of Cape Town and the wonderful views,” explained Cassar.

Ideally situated opposite the CTICC, and within walking distance of the V&A, this 59-bedroomed hotel is ideal for conference, business and leisure travelers. “The hotel allows easy access to the Convention Centre, the V&A Waterfront, as well as the CBD,” added Cassar.

Although the hotel has been developed to satisfy the conferencing market, it won’t include conference or banqueting facilities itself, expecting to provide the accommodation element for groups that are participating in conferences or conventions taking place at the CTICC. Guest facilities however include a restaurant and lounge, as well as an intimate coffee and cocktail bar. Other facilities will include a gym and swimming pool for guest enjoyment.
