The International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) has elected Ian Watt, the director for international development at Old Mutual Properties, to its board of trustees.

Old Mutual Properties is a division of Old Mutual plc (OML), South Africa's largest life insurer.

Watt, who was chairman of the 2005 Retail Real Estate World Summit held by the ICSC in April in Istanbul, is the first South African to serve as an ICSC trustee.

With some 44,000 members in 80 countries, the ICSC is the global trade association of the shopping centre industry.

Its board of trustees helps guide the association's future through an active involvement in committees, task forces, specialised conferences and teaching programmes and advising on publications and research.
