Wedgewood Village Golf and Country Estate is making strides with its sales drive, having sold 25% of the 840 units.
David Miller, the project's marketing manager, says the value of the fully completed development, including the construction of all homes and facilities, will be in excess of R1-billion.
The environmental impact assessment study had been given to the metro for approval, after which the project could move forward.
"That process has indicated to us that there is absolutely no reason why this cant go ahead," says Miller.
Property Promotions and Management is the owner of the development and has completed similar projects, such as Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Club, Pinnacle Point Casino, Goldfields Casino and The Clarens Golf and Trout Estate.
The Wedgewood development will consist of 840 homes, 486 of which will be golf course plots and another 350 in the village and lifestyle village sections of the estate.
The village consists of smaller units for small families, while the lifestyle village is restricted to the 55 and over age group.
Plot prices range from R395,000 to R1,4-million.
"We are trying to create something that is so visually pleasing that people will want to be there to see it all the time," says Miller.
The company has invested heavily in marketing, which Miller says already runs into several million rands.
"You can't play games with something like this.
"You have to put your money where your mouth is. We havent quite stopped."
Miller says that during construction, each home will create employment on average for at least 10 people.
"Our company has a policy that it will use only local builders with local labour - 80% have to be local labour in the tender documents."
