Scottish Enterprise and Edinburgh City Council have unveiled plans for a £2bn mixed-use development at Granton Waterfront. Masterplanned by Ken Shuttleworth and John Prevc, the proposed development will transform a 150-acre site between Granton Harbour and Gypsy Brae and create a new island, connected to the shore by a causeway.

The plan envisages 1.1m sq ft of offices, 250,000 sq ft of retail and 4,500 new homes. The island will boast a 35-storey tower, with 25 residential floors, a 10-storey hotel and rooftop restaurant.

There will also be two large visitor attractions and a 300,000 sq ft casino, for which Waterfront Edinburgh is currently seeking a development partner. It will have five bars and restaurants, plus an exhibition and conference centre, fitness and entertainment complexes and a 200-bedroom four-star hotel.
