Protea Hotels have announced that they are involved in negotiations to secure an international management and marketing contract for a hotel in Angola’s capital.
Cape Town-based Protea Hotels have announced that they are presently involved in negotiations to secure an international management and marketing contract for a hotel in Angola’s capital, Luanda, aimed at the corporate market. The hotel will be a ‘new build’, situated in the City Centre and will consist of 250 bedrooms.

“Negotiations are well underway between local Angolan investors and a South African construction company,” said Bernard Cassar, Regional Director for Protea Hotels. The partners include Group Five, one of South Africa’s top three construction and materials manufacturing companies as well as Plan One a local hotel procurement company recognized in the industry for design and décor within Africa. The planned hotel will be fall under Protea’s 5-star brand - African Pride Hotels and Lodges, that presently incorporates the Melrose Arch Hotel, amongst others.

Angola is presently one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, deriving its wealth from oil and diamonds. The country is being rebuilt after decades of internal conflict and war. The hotel will be situated on the Luanda Bay, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and will focus on domestic corporate travelers coming into the capital for business from abroad.

This will be Protea’s first hotel in Angola and forms part of the expansion into West Africa, following on from their success in penetrating the Nigerian market. “We have been looking for the right opportunity to become involved in the rebuilding of this country, and this is the first phase of our involvement in Angola,” added Cassar.

Plan One has proposed a contemporary nautical design, due to the seafront location of the hotel, and expect that it’ll be unique with it’s modern take on the theme.
