The first retirement village on the West Coast with a fully-equipped 24-hour frail care centre, is to be built at the start of 2004 in the heart of burgeoning Langebaan, a 90-minute drive from Cape Town.

The Langebaan Retirement Village will comprise of 63 residential units and 40 apartments plus a community and medical centre, with frail care facilities.

The frail care facility will feature temporary or permanent care in 25 private rooms all en-suite. It will be staffed by professional, experienced personnel, under the careful management of Gerimed - a company with outstanding credentials. Services include assistance with personal hygiene, mobile activities, administration of medicine and general health care, specialist therapists and hairdressers.

A community centre caters for residents’ day-to-day requirements, which includes two dining rooms, a lounge with a pub, a library and landscaped gardens.

The village enjoys round the clock security, an electrified boundary fence and wall, with a single access-controlled entrance. All residential units contain an internal emergency alarm system linked to a central control room.

The R50-million development will be constructed by Power Developments, of the Power Group of Companies. The complex complies with the terms of the Housing Development Schemes for retired persons, 1988 (Act No. 65 of 1988).

Says Henrie Jonck, operations director of Power Developments "The Langebaan Retirement Village has been designed to provide homeowners with an all-embracing lifestyle, and is also ideal for retired weekenders seeking seclusion, or entertainment."

Design guidelines retain the aesthetics of a traditional West Coast village to blend with the surrounds. The residential units are offered in five design options, each emphasising comfort and quality finishes. Accommodation includes one and two-bedroom homes; optional extras include braais, fireplaces, single/double lock-up garage, or carport.

Prices range from R549 900, for single title houses; apartments start at R199 000 on a life right basis. A Home Owners’ Association will be appointed to handle administration, with levies fixed at purchase, escalating only after two years.

Situated behind the Langebaan municipal offices, the complex is a sunny stroll from shops, chemist, library, municipal offices, post office, doctors and tempting restaurants. Langebaans golden beach is literally on the doorstep of the village. Churches, tennis courts, and a golf course are also nearby. The Club Mykonos casino, the magnificent West Coast National Park, fishing and sailing in the perfect lagoon is a stone’s throw away.
