Business Unity SA signed a co-operation agreement with the Democratic Republic of Congo's Federation of Entrepreneurial Chambers during President Thabo Mbeki's recent visit to that country.

The signing of the agreement signals business and investment opportunities that could be available not only for SA's large companies but also small and medium-sized companies and boosting black economic empowerment endeavours for the promotion of black business.

Busa is the merged entity of the previously white predominant federated business organisation Business SA (BSA) and its black counterpart Black Business Council .

BSA and the council decided to merge after long discussions that began in 2002, following government's insistence that organised business was divided and had continued to pose a big problem for the way forward for government's interaction with business.

Busa president Patrice Motsepe said Congolese opportunities for South African firms were in mining, agriculture, transport, infrastructure and electricity generation.
