The government's innovative approach to the maintenance of state assets has led to the formation of WSP Sidibene Facilities Management Company. This follows a successful tender bid by this newly formed entity to maintain an entire portfolio of state properties in the Cape metropole over the next two years, including the parliamentary complex and Tuynhuys.

Along with WSP Facilities Management, ACG Architects, Nibu Construction and Project Management, Ubunye Engineering Services and GVK-Siya Zama are stakeholders in the new company which will assist in releasing allocated funds for the delivery of ongoing maintenance programmes and capital projects of state buildings.

The project was priced at R82 million and will run over a two-year contract period, ending in December 2004.

This is a pilot project launched by the Department of Public Works and performance and delivery will be under the spotlight. The complex contract is multidisciplinary and includes routine maintenance and building works, landscaping and mechanical and electrical engineering.

In addition to job creation and the unlocking of allocated and available funds, one of the major project objectives is the development of small and medium enterprises (SMMEs).
