CAPE TOWN Pietermaritzburg residents can save for a shopping spree in the next few months as retail group Pick 'n Pay Stores is investing R15m in opening three different formats in the town and creating more than 250 jobs.

The three formats are a Pick 'n Pay Supermarket, a Boardmans home store and a lower-cost Boxer Superstore.

The group says it has researched consumer demand in the area. Its Pick 'n Pay Supermarket, which opens in the Liberty Midlands Mall Centre today, will be the fourth Pick 'n Pay in the town. It measures about 5300m² and employs more than 200 people.

Also today the group opens its first Pietermaritzburg Boardmans store in the same mall, covering about a 1000m² and its first Boxer Superstore in the CBD.

The superstore stretches over 2000m² and employs 70 people.
