Africrest becomes one of the first property companies in South Africa to place solar panels on the majority of their portfolio

Over the last year Africrest has invested several million Rand installing solar panels on the majority of their buildings.

“We are extremely happy that while saving costs we are also able to help the environment” comments Africrest’s director, Grant Friedman.

Some very interesting points, Africrest estimates:

-       The installed panels will save approximately 1,4 million litres of water per annum.

-       About 600,000kg of CO2 emissions per annum will now be saved.

-       34,000kg of solar panels were installed.

-       1,506 solar panels were installed in total.

The solar project started over a year ago with a process that began with installing smart bulk electrical meters to monitor each building’s electrical demands and energy usage patterns. Since the solar panels have been installed Africrest is able to have live monitoring of the buildings solar usage.

Africrest, a company that always looks to push the boundaries to make life better for their tenants is also extremely proud to be at the forefront of the move to reduce their portfolio’s carbon footprint.
