The awards acknowledge tenants who provide superior levels of retail performance and customer service and are awarded in various trading categories including the best refurbishment, which was won by Puma, and the best new tenant to join the centre, was presented to Cotton On Superstore.

The ultimate award, the Canal Walk Retail Excellence of the Year award, which is the highest honour of this annual event, was presented to Cape Union Mart.

Canal Walk CEO Gavin Wood explained that this award is presented based on a number of factors, in addition to overall successful trading, including the store's high level of proactivity and the value that it adds to Canal Walk Shopping Centre overall.

Canal Walk retailers which were acknowledged as the best in their retail categories included Salomon, Romens, Lovisa, Shoe Connection, Obey Your Body, Pens Unlimited, iStore, The Scoin Shop, Tempur, Cape Union Mart Adventure Centre, Mullers Optometrists, Woolworths, Clicks, Marios Jewellers, Edge For Men, Osumo, Cinnabon and Nando's. Guests received wonderful prizes on the night which included a Mauritius trip, a R2000 gift card from Canal Walk, an iPad mini from the iStore, a beautiful Rice Rose set from Swarovski and a 2 night stay at the luxury Namaqua Flowers Beach Camp.
