Dihlabeng Mall, Bethlehem’s latest retail centre was opened by Investec Property and Bethcas Properties on Thursday 28 March 2013, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the Executive Mayor, Mr. THM Mofokeng and his Mayoral Committee.

Since then, the mall has enjoyed a highly successful first week having recorded turnover in excess of R14 million over the Easter weekend.

Darryl Mayers of Investec Property said: "Investec and Bethcas Properties are thrilled with the initial success of the centre. The importance of the mall to the surrounding communities was demonstrated by the overwhelming number of shoppers who passed through the doors on the opening day. The clear demand for a centre in the area has been confirmed by the response from the community."

Dihlabeng is the only mall of this size in a 300km radius making shopping now convenient and available to the local communities of Bethlehem, Bohlokong and Vuka. Previously these shoppers had to travel to Bloemfontein, approximately 250km, or as far as Durban to get to the closest regional shopping centre.

With Pick 'n Pay, Game and Checkers as its anchor tenants, the Mall has attracted many of South Africa's national retailers including Foschini, Truworths, Reggies, Game, Mr Price Group, Edgars, Jet Stores, Legit, as well as a number of smaller regional and national tenants.

In addition to having created numerous permanent jobs, the centre has spurred a strong sense of pride amongst local residents. The design of the Mall, which is 27 000m2, incorporates large, spacious light-filled areas and on grade parking for 1 700 vehicles giving shoppers easy access to the centre.

The consortium is considering a second phase of development which will add a further 10 000m2 to the Dihlabeng Mall, making it a significant shopping node in the region.
