An industrial crane crashed through the roof of the Golden Walk Shopping Centre, in Germiston, on the East Rand, injuring 25 shoppers, two of them seriously.

An industrial crane crashed through the roof of the Golden Walk shopping centre, in Germiston, on the East Rand, on Monday, injuring 25 shoppers, two of them seriously, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann said the crane landed in a shop, injuring people inside.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear, and police were investigating.

The injured were treated on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital, said Steinmann.
