Sod turning ceremony held for new Moruleng Mall in the North West province

The Mall development, will include the development of a CBD, the Moruleng Sports Complex, tribal offices, sewage treatment plant, residential complex, a hotel and improved road infrastructure.

Minister Richard Baloyi, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Corne Claasen from New Africa Developments jointly broke ground to this exciting new development. Minister Baloyi commented that "the Mall will give the community a facelift – it is encouraging to see that traditional communities can attract powerful, tried and tested developers such as New Africa Developments". He added that due to Kgosi Pilani's vision, services would now be brought to the people.

The centres name originates from the area, which is situated on the northeastern border of the Pilansberg. This rural area is located approximately 65km's north of Rustenburg and 30km's from Northam.

The Mall is a collaboration between New Africa Developments and the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela Tribe and will form part of the Greater Moruleng Revitalisation Project (GMRP). The project, which is the brainchild of Kgosi Pilani, will include the development of a CBD, the Moruleng Sports Complex, tribal offices, sewage treatment plant, residential complex, a hotel and improved road infrastructure.

New Africa Developments has been building shopping centres in outlying areas since 1991 and have completed over 30 developments, including the exceptionally successful Jubilee Mall in Hammanskraal, just outside Pretoria.

The much-anticipated Moruleng Mall will be 30,483m2 of retail heaven, with prospective national tenants such as Game, Spar, Edgars, Shoprite, Nedbank, Standard Bank, FNB, Clicks, Foschini, Jet, KFC, Pep, Ackermansand Mr Price taking space. There will be a smorgasbord of over 80 stores to choose from, with major fashion, food, bank, grocery, doctor's roomsand other services such as a hair salon and post office being included.

Moruleng Mall will be the first of its kind in the area and will accommodate over 800 parking bays. Commuters will be in for a treat with a state of the art onsite taxi rank, servicing both long and short distance routes.

The Mall is situated on the main arterial road, which will make for easy access and egress.

The construction phase will create numerous work opportunities for the local community and once the Mall is trading even more permanent jobs will be on offer. The Mall will have a contemporary design to compliment the local area and will include state of the art features such as a high tech security system, beautiful landscaping and exceptional toilet facilities.

Moruleng Mall is scheduled to open its doors in November 2013 and will definitely become an icon in the town, where previously underserviced shoppers can meet.
