The nomination is for Kayema's Hybrid Solar and Heat Pumps Project at Standard Bank's head quarter building in Johannesburg's CBD.
"Kayema designed and installed the custom-build solar-heat pump hybrid system in November 2010," says Managing Director of Kayema Energy Solutions Dr Dino Petrarolo. "The state of the art system is expected to reduce electricity demand by around 500 000kWh per year."
"Standard Bank took the initiative to fund the project themselves, as part of their drive to take a strong green leadership role in SA by reducing the electricity demand of their buildings. Having set the example on a corporate level, the Bank have subsequently rolled out a scheme allowing special rates for staff members wishing to install solar water heaters at their own homes.
"The results of this project have far reaching effects, not only in terms of green design and energy savings, but also as an example to other organisations that renewable energy technology pays for itself."
The winner will be announced at a Ceremony & Gala Dinner taking place on 25 August 2011.
