Benoni's Lakeside Mall has turned green.
The Investec-managed shopping centre has employed a holistic waste
management and recycling system which, according to operations
manager, Nicholas Oliphant, has reduced waste sent to landfill sites
from 100 to 15 tons per month.
'Instead of consolidating glass, paper, metal and plastic refuse in a
compactor bin for transport to a landfill site, a professional waste
management company, Don't Waste Services, now recycles these products
- sorted into 40 categories - on the Mall's behalf,' Oliphant said.
Investec Property Group is now considering introducing the new
recycling management system to other properties it manages.
The Allan Gray Property Trust Fund has sold its Bruma Boardwalk
shopping complex, on the shores of the man-made Bruma Lake, to a
Chinese businessman, the latest newsletter of the South African
Council of Shopping Centres reports.
New owner, Sam Ng, has renamed the centre Asia City and tenants will
be drawn from Chinese retailers and wholesalers. The newsletter
speculates that the problematical 11 650sq m complex changed hands
for around R8,5-million.
Reconstruction of the Randburg Waterfront has started.
Now to be called Brightwater Commons, the Allan Gray Property
Trust-owned centre will be devoid of water once the
R80-million revamp is completed.
The SA Council of Shopping Centres says first signs of the 'new look'
should be evident around Easter this year when, for example, Mr Price
moves in.
