Buyers and wine producers in search of a wine estate have a once-in-a-lifetime deal coming up in two weeks' time, when ClareMart Auction Group puts the estate La Couronne in Franschhoek under the gavel.

The 39ha wine farm, which is near the Klein Dassenberg mountain on the Robertsvlei Road, has a business centre comprising a restaurant, conference facilities, and a modern wine cellar.

La Couronne wine estate has attracted international interest because it produces wines of international standard, and has an outstanding wine making heritage.

The group's auctioneer, Dawie Maritz, says this is a great opportunity to invest in an established wine estate with modern facilities.

It is also an ideal venue for weddings and other functions, and boasts beautiful picnic areas along the river, which runs through the estate. Because it is located high on the south, eastern slopes of the mountains, it has spectacular views of the Franschhoek valley.

Grape varieties include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The farm is named after the warship that transported 277 French Huguenots to the Cape in 1685.

Many settled in Franschhoek, which in Afrikaans means "French corner". Some of the Huguenots were given land by the Dutch government.

Those interested can view the estate tomorrow and on August 11. The auction is on Thursday, August 18 on site at 12 noon.
