This will bring 3D cinema technology to Limpopo cinema goers for the first time.
The 2,100sqm, 996 seater cinema complex will feature six state-of-the-art cinemas with full digital sound. One of these cinemas will offer 3D.
“Ster Kinekor has chosen Mall of the North as the location for the brand new theatre complex as it is the first super-regional mall of its size and stature in Polokwane. Mall of the North is strategically positioned and will serve the entire northern region, including the cross-border market,” says Crawford Leitch, Group Property and Development Executive for Ster Kinekor Theatres.
The new Mall of the North Ster Kinekor is expected to create employment for between 15 and 20 people.
Leitch says, “The cinema complex is geared for all customers. It will also offer a kiosk with full range of drinks, popcorn and confectionery and it will be user-friendly for our disabled customers.”
The massive 75,000sqm Mall of the North shopping centre, with its 180 new shops offering a wide selection of leading brands and fashion, is expected to draw shoppers from across the province, and further afield, when it opens in 2011.
The Mall of the North is owned and developed by JSE-listed company Resilient Property Income Fund, Flanagan & Gerard and Moolman Group. Anchor tenants include two supermarkets which are in excess of 5,000sqm, Pick n Pay and Checkers, joined by Edgars, Woolworths and Game, as well as the Ster Kinekor cinema complex.
“Mall of the North will bring the best shopping and entertainment to the people of Polokwane and its surrounding areas. The Ster Kinekor cinema complex is a powerful draw card, and the cinema will also benefit from the shopper volumes that we expect will support the mall,” says Patrick Flanagan of Flanagan & Gerard.
Mall of the North’s excellent line up of popular restaurants and great eateries will complement the cinema offering.
Says Johann Kriek of Resilient Properties: “Mall of the North is Polokwane’s single largest commercial real estate investment, and will serve to retain a larger portion of spend in the area, where previously customers had to go to other retail centres in other provinces, now they can enjoy a day out at the movies without having to travel long distances.”
