With the much anticipated “breaking of ground” at Sungate, situated at Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek Namibia, the graders rolled onto site in March, signaling the starting point to this prestigious development

Property-Housing-ResidentialSince the investor launch of the Sungate mixed-use development in August 2009, there has been a tremendous response from the local industries and investors alike.

Due to the benefits that Sungate will offer to Namibia as a whole, the project has been well-received by the local market and is supported by the Government of the Republic of Namibia at both national and regional levels. Some of these benefits include the implementation of cutting-edge infrastructure to increase the functionality of businesses, thus catering for the requirements of big businesses, SMME’s and entrepreneurs alike. Sungate will maintain a primary focus on sustainability and will serve as a hub for tourism, logistics, distribution, leisure and will also feature an affordable housing component.

The development as a whole has been sub-divided into smaller, more manageable phases - the initial phase of the development consists of 5.1 ha of saleable land situated around the intersection of the Trans-Kalahari highway and the airport turn-off. This includes a 100-room transit hotel, a filling station with trucking facilities, light industrial park, commercial space, and a total of 20 erven ranging in size from 1400m ² to 5000m ².

“The uptake of erven has been satisfying and we are currently 50% sold, with a prominent hotel group and a petro-port site already confirmed”, says Peter Collins, Marketing Director of Accolade Properties Namibia (APN), the developers of the project. Within Phase 1A, opportunities exist, for the following: car rental facilities, vehicle service and repair, airline catering, travel and tourism-related services, cold storage, lounge facilities, light industrial businesses, large scale warehousing, light manufacturing, consumer warehousing and wholesale and retail trade.

Light grading of the roads has already commenced in Phase 1A and the installation of bulk services and the completion of internal services to Phase 1A will take place from June 2010. Completion of the internal services to Phase 1A is expected in December 2010.

The primary intention of APN is to service the sites and sell the individual erven to local and international developers, investors and end-users. Prominent Namibian real estate agents have been brought on board to assist in the selling process – Joseph & Snyman; Stefan Loftie-Eaton Properties; No 1 Estates & Elna Esterhuizen Properties.
