THE new R8 million conference centre at Club Mykonos should contribute significantly to the group's profits and will enhance the value of property in the area, says Phil Calothi, managing director of the Club Mykonos Group.

Club Mykonos has now established itself as 'a small town' which provides all the holiday maker needs in a one-stop destination, and a planned expansion programme will further add to the existing facilities and the appeal of the West Coast resort, Calothi said. So far, 334 of the 850 residential units planned for the resort have been completed.

As the sell-out point of the completed units is approaching, the resort is planning to build a further 50 units this year.

The leisure facilities at Club Mykonos now include the casino, several restaurants, a beauty salon, the yacht harbour and marina, jet skis, boardsailing, paddleboats and pleasure launches.

The resort also provides tennis courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a gymnasium, an aerobics hall, saunas, pool tables, a hi-tech games room, quad biking and go-carts while golf and horse riding are available close by.

After the previous conference centre had been converted into a casino, said Calothi, it had been impossible to cater as effectively for the conference market. There was a definite need, therefore, for a new conference centre with the same functional capabilities as the old one.

'We used to operate a multi-use conference centre capable of catering for six independent conferences simultaneously.

This was a critical component in the resort's operation, boosting both the rental pool and the restaurants turnover. We want to attract similar numbers again.'

The new centre will enable the resort to host up to 500 delegates per conference or to hold four conferences of up to 100 delegates each at the same time.
