Buffalo City Municipality said on Wednesday it had received thousands more objections to general property valuations after the deadline for objections had been extended.
Municipal spokesperson Keith Ngesi said that by April 30, they had received a total of 5 556 objections.
He said no further extensions for objections would be allowed, and that the municipality was now set to implement rates on revalued properties.
“The implementation date is July 1, 2009,” he said.
Buffalo City Municipality had initially allowed residents to submit objections by April 2, and had received 433 objections before the deadline was extended to April 30.
According to Ngesi, all objections that required more than a 10% adjustment in value would be submitted for review.
Property owners would be notified of the outcome of their objections by July 25 .
The Appeal Board would sit from August 25 .
Ngesi said property owners, the BCM and anyone affected by such decisions could appeal against findings.
He explained that owners of properties on which objections were received would be charged existing rates pending the outcome of the appeal process.
Ngesi said in cases of over-payments of rates, property owners would receive credit plus interest.
He said where there was under-payment, property owners would have to make arrangements to make additional payments.
