Mr. Thabani Jali is Group Company Secretary, Enterprise Governance and Compliance of Nedbank Group Ltd.
Mr. Thabani Jali, BA (Fort Hare), LLB (Natal University), Llm (Tulan) has been Chief Governance and Compliance Officer at Nedbank Group Limited since October 17, 2011.
He has been appointed as Group Company Secretary of the Company with effect from 1 July 2012. He is currently executive chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers (Southern Africa). He was formerly a Deputy Judge President of the High Court of South Africa (Natal Provincial Division) and a Judge of the Competition Appeal Court.
Prior to his appointment on the bench, he was a partner in a commercial law firm. He also served as Chairman of the Competition Commission Inquiry into Bank Charges and the National Payment System from 2006 to 2008. He replaces Selby Baqwa SC who has retired after almost nine years' service with the group.
During this time Selby enhanced the enterprise governance and compliance function for the group and was instrumental in Nedbank Group winning numerous governance and sustainability awards including the award for "Corporate Governance" at the Commonwealth Business Council-African Business Awards 2010.
