Transfer duty on property

Adjustments to transfer duty on property in the 2016 national Budget are to impact only the upper end of the residential property market.

South Africa’s land registration system is a comprehensive one, whereby, once a buyer takes transfer and the property purchase registered in their name, they have a real right to that property, says Laurence van Blerck of Knight Frank Residential SA.

While a written lease is not a legal requirement when renting residential property in South Africa, it is recommended that everything be committed to writing.
