The name Permanent Trust has been synonymous with property for many years. In fact the company was founded by the late Robert Kaplan in 1923 as a Real Estate Business to sell plots in a seaside township at Kleinmond and over the past 80 years has grown into a household name in the Cape Town area.

Commercial and Industrial Property Management
Due to the complexities of this type of property investment, our commercial and industrial properties, are managed by property managers, who have been carefully selected for their experience in this field.

We offer a full asset management facility for owners of commercial and industrial property and our current portfolio ranges from one individual factory to industrial parks, office buildings and several substantial shopping centres.

Commercial and Industrial Broking
The commercial and industrial management team is supported by experienced commercial property brokers who specialise in letting and investment sales. Our investment brokers also source development opportunities for clients, offer advice on market valuations and carry out feasibility studies.

Residential Property Management
We manage blocks of flats, houses and individual sectional title units in all parts of the Peninsula. Our staff are all experienced in residential property management and offer a personalised service. We ensure that we remain abreast of all market trends and that our clients with residential properties always obtain the best market rents. In addition we work closely with owners in regard to maintenance and we are able to obtain competitive prices for all maintenance work from our panel of contractors. A 24 hour service is provided in the event of an emergency.

Sectional Title Property Management
Our Sectional Title Division offers a personalised service to both owners and Trustees of Bodies Corporate. Our portfolio managers are responsible for all aspects of the property although they are supported by the accounting and maintenance division.

Whilst we do offer a full management service to our clients, we have, for those clients wishing to have a reduced management service, formed a close association with a large financial services company which provides a service whereby levies are guaranteed and paid to the Body Corporate on the 1st of each month.

Company History
In 1936 the company opened a residential housing sales division and with the addition of the odd sale of blocks of flats, the main emphasis of the company remained unchanged until 1960.

In 1960 the company expanded to include a property administration division. In addition the firm actively sought out and sold investment sites to developers for the erection of blocks of flats.

Over the years Permanent Trust gained a reputation as one of the leading firms for property administration and handled the administration and rental collection of hundreds of blocks of flats, housing thousands of tenants, in addition to the administration of properties in the commercial and industrial fields.

In 1972 Thibault Trust, a company which had previously specialised in insolvencies, purchased the controlling interest in Permanent Trust and with this impetus it continued to grow. The company merged with Syfrets Trust and a new company known as Permanent Trust Syfrets was created .

In 1981 Permanent Trust and Syfrets Trust decided to separate the company into two operations, the management division being retained by Syfrets, whilst Permanent Trust, concentrated on letting, and sales of Commercial, Industrial and Residential properties. In 1996 the company again entered the management arena and built a select portfolio of managed properties and presently manages a substantial portfolio of properties in the Residential, Sectional Title Commercial and Industrial fields ranging from suburban shopping centres to a single sectional title flat.

The present directors of the company are Bill Cox, Eva Kleynhans and Billy Garnett, who together with their management team have in excess of 100 years collective experience in the property industry.
