Roads are the hallmark of a progressive society and have profound impacts on the communities they serve. The almost complete Mount Edgecombe N2/M41 Interchange at uMhlanga on KwaZulu-Natal’s rapidly expanding North Coast, is one such development that will have a significant impact on this area’s urban quality and spatial connectivity.

This morning saw the official launch of Johannesburg’s first Road Interchange Index, which measures the performance of the City’s most popular business node off-ramps according to user mobility, roadway capacity and ease of access.

South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) boss Nazir Alli says it is important for the country to keep investing in the upgrading and maintenance of its road infrastructure to pave the way for economic growth and development.

Approval for the commencement of construction and completion of Sandown Road through to the M12 and N7 highway has been given at last. This R82 million project, which includes a road-over-rail bridge as well as ancillary underground services, will commence during September this year, and the first traffic is expected to roll across the new road and bridge by December 2013
