A growing trust deficit between the government and the private sector threatens to derail efforts to turn around the struggling construction sector, but government is intensifying its efforts to build meaningful relationships with the industry.

After rising to 35 in 3Q2018, the FNB/BER Building Confidence Index fell back to 32 in 4Q2018. 

After falling to 29 in 2Q2018, the FNB/BER Building Confidence Index was unchanged in 3Q2018.

The FNB/BER Building Confidence Index lost 14 points to register a level of 29 in 2Q2018. This is the lowest since 2Q2012.
