Nersa grants Eskom 9.4% tariff increase

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has granted Eskom a 9.41% tariff increase in the 2019/20 financial year.

Due to a shortage in capacity, Eskom is implementing stage three rotational load shedding from 8am and it is likely to continue until 11pm today.

While the ‘green revolution’ in residential property, unlike in the commercial sector, is still in its infancy, rapid strides in technology and increasing awareness of the potential cost savings and reduced environmental impact are making good sense to more and more home owners – and home buyers, says Pam Golding Properties.

On the back of the success of Waverley Office Park’s first phase – which was leased to auditing firm Sekela Xabiso and engineering firm Jacobs Matasis – Barrow Properties has now broken ground on the second phase of the project.

Emira Property Fund has announced it is investing R17,6 million for generators to serve retailers at its super-regional Wonderpark Shopping Centre in Pretoria to help counteract the detrimental effects of load shedding on their businesses.

Eskom says it is set to continue with planned maintenance during the winter months, while the power utility also dispelled prospects of a total electricity blackout.

Eskom’s newly appointed acting CEO Brian Molefe says the utility needs to find an additional 3 000 Megawatts of power in order to maintain power plants without implementing load shedding.

Eskom to move to stage 3 load shedding

Eskom will move from stage 2 to stage 3 load-shedding at 4pm today.

Eskom will implement stage 2 load-shedding as of 4pm this afternoon, said the utility on Wednesday.

City Power is set to implement a residential time-of-use tariff system that will allow the utility to price electricity at different rates during the day.
