Balwin Properties Limited successfully debuted on the main board of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in the Real estate holding and development sector.

MSCI Inc. (NYSE: MSCI), has today released the IPD South Africa Annual Property Index, which shows the South African investment property sector delivered an ungeared total return of 12.9% in 2014 - down from 15.9% in 2013.

Many landlords and tenants feel that they have considered all the aspects of a future tenancy of premises. It is only years down the line that many side-effects of a lease agreement may come into effect, many of which may be negative.

At an awards ceremony in Cape Town, Vukile Property Fund Limited - a listed property fund - recorded the highest annualised total return over a three-year period, based on un-geared property data for the funds measured by IPD. Delegates at the IPD investment conference, at which the awards were issued, have also heard of numerous challenges and opportunities facing the investment property industry in SA and Africa and how some funds and developers are adapting. And there is a clear message of hope gained by seeing the opportunities for what they are and adapting accordingly

As confidence wavers in the ability of financial institutions to provide an adequate haven for the investment capital of average South Africans, so the need to find strong viable alternatives for one’s savings becomes more urgent. And it might not be the most obvious forms of conventional investment where opportunity lies:
