The first part of the new e-toll dispensation announced by government in May will come into effect on Wednesday.

The Gauteng Advisory Panel on the Socio-economic Impact of E-tolls will kick off its month-long consultation process on Wednesday.

The arguments against e-tolling and the strong opposition that they have engendered, surprising though it may seem, have failed to bring about any long term changes in the newly imposed user tax arrangements and this being so, the question is now being asked: "What effect will e-tolls have on the South African residential property market?"

The fee structure for the Gauteng freeway network will include discounts for off-peak travel, e-tag users, frequent users and qualifying public transport operators.
