With green building becoming a crucial part of developing smarter and more sustainable African cities, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is pleased to announce the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) as a key participant and sponsor of RICS Summit Africa 2018, set for Sandton this month.

Time is running out to reform the buildings and construction sector’s energy performance and keep the Paris Agreement on track, with the energy intensity per square metre of buildings needing to improve 30 per cent by 2030, according to new research released in Paris on Monday.

South Africa’s top rated Green Star buildings and top green building professionals were announced at the Green Building Convention, held at Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town this past week.

Thulani Kuzwayo, public sector managing executive of the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) has been appointed Regional Chair of the Africa Regional Network – a group of Green Building Councils working to advance green building within the region.

The Green Building Council of SA (GBCSA) today announced the appointment of sustainability expert Dorah Modise (previously Nteo)  as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the highly experienced Rudolf Pienaar as its new Non-Executive Board Chair and Faieda Jacobs as Non-Executive Deputy Chair.

The Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) is entering its 10th year of operation on a high note with a milestone 200 buildings rated with Green Star SA certifications. 

The impact of buildings on the environment is astounding, with the built environment currently accounting for 25% of the world’s water usage and 60% of its electricity. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA), which promotes green building development in the country, has re-elected Seana Nkhahle as its non-executive chairman and Rudolf Pienaar as non-executive deputy chairman for a second term.
