Major global data centre markets are seeing soaring construction costs as development in new and emerging hubs continues to heat up, according to research from global professional services company Turner & Townsend.

Despite the headwinds facing the world economy, the global construction sector entered 2019 with significant momentum, having seen growth of five percent in 2018.

The UK Department for International Trade (DIT) has appointed professional services company, Turner & Townsend, as partner of choice in leading their UK-China Initiative in Africa.

Despite rapid globalisation with investment funds flowing across borders and money pouring into constructed assets, the construction profession has until now, lacked a common language and framework for classifying and reporting construction costs.

New York, San Francisco, Zurich, Hong Kong and London top the league table of the most expensive places to build.
