Acquisition of Investment Property

In keeping with the group’s strategy of investing across the broader European market, shareholders are advised that MAS, through a subsidiary of PKM Investments S.á.r.l., has acquired the Atrium Mall shopping centre in Arad, Romania from Cosmovia Holdings Limited, a member of the well-known Demjan Group based in Hungary.  

MAS, through a wholly owned subsidiary, Flensburg Limited, has entered into a sale and purchase agreement to acquire a shopping centre located in Flensburg, Germany, from Commerzbank Aktiengesellschaft.

Third quarter (Q3 18) statistics released by ooba, South Africa’s leading home loan originator, show that year-on-year from Q3 17 to Q3 18, the growth in the Average Purchase Price effectively remained static with a 0.1% increase. This continues the trend of negative real price growth (growth less inflation) in the residential property market.

Balwin Properties, the JSE’s only national large-scale developer of turnkey sectional-title apartments and surrounding infrastructure aimed at the mid- to upper market segment, today reported strong financial growth for the interim financial period ending 31 August 2018.

Hammerson plc (“Hammerson”) has exchanged contracts for the sale of a 50% stake in Highcross shopping centre in Leicester for £236m. This represents a 5% discount to December 2017 book value allowing for capex associated with the proactive reconfiguration of the former House of Fraser store.

Data published by Statistics South Africa with regard to private sector-financed residential building activity (see explanatory note) showed that the planning phase of new housing improved in the first seven months of 2018, whereas the construction phase contracted.

South African millennials are buying homes

Millennials in South African have purchased homes in great numbers in recent years. According to statistics supplied by property group Lightstone, almost 330 000 millennials bought homes in South Africa between 2015 and 2017 and 70% of them were first-time homebuyers.

Sandton is seen as South Africa’s most important business and financial hub.

The upswing in consumer confidence in the first three months of 2018 was a welcome change from the depressed environment which overshadowed the last quarter of 2018.
