Plan for low-income homes

Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu plans to force property developers who target the top end of the market to also build homes for low-income families. She is aiming to have legislation in place by March next year.

Johannesburg plans to play a bigger role in the delivery of housing, taking over some of the functions of the national and provincial governments in a bid to reduce housing backlogs.

Absa makes good on housing commitment

A public-private partnership between Absa and Government saw the launch today of a R400 million housing development project at Olievenhoutbosch.

The Housing Department and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) will jointly host Municipal Housing Indaba in Johannesburg tomorrow.

Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu says inter-governmental cooperation requires a unique commitment of the three spheres of government to work in a collaborative manner to improve living conditions.
