Emerging markets will come back into view

Africa has experienced growing private equity transaction flows.

Consolidation in the listed property sector is being stalled by volatile markets, with investors reluctant to sell their stock at existing prices.

Listed property returned 7.99% to its investors, outstripping cash’s 6.46%, equities 5.13% and bonds’ -3.93%, according to figures from Catalyst Fund Managers.

While most of last year was a pleasing one for Hyprop shareholders, 2016 has begun on a poor note. In fact, 2015 ended with little good news from the marketplace, as the stock plunged after a months-long rally.

Last year was a mediocre one for South Africa: the JSE ALSI ended 2015 only 5.13% up over the 12 months and GDP growth was well south of 2% for the full year.
