The City of Johannesburg’s Housing department has won a Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Award at United Nations 14th Annual Session of the Global Forum on Human Settlements in Ethiopia for its South Hills mixed income housing development, south of Johannesburg.

Angry builders stage sit-in, demand payment

About 25 emerging building contractors have staged a sit-in at the Cacadu District Municipality’s housing offices in Port Elizabethf due to a salary dispute.

Cape Town  Transnet’s property division, Propnet, is negotiating the sale of 127 noncore properties with a book value of R132m and a market value of about R211m to the national housing department.

Low-cost housing raises hackles

Goverment’s proposal for 20% of new residential property developments to be set aside for low-cost housing has raised a number of questions and challenges for developers.

The Housing Department and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) will jointly host Municipal Housing Indaba in Johannesburg tomorrow.
