SA exits technical recession in third quarter

South Africa has come out of a technical recession with the economy growing by 2.2% in the third quarter of 2018, said Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).

Vukile Property Fund today reported 7.5% growth in dividends to 78.1 cents per share for its half-year to 30 September 2018, which is well in line with its full-year guidance.

Labour issues, late payment and slow growth ‘catastrophic’ for the sector, says Master Builders’ Association North.

The results of Consulting Engineers South Africa's (CESA) Bi-annual Economic and Capacity Survey for the period January to June 2018 recently released indicates positive news, that the construction sector has seen growth for the first time in six quarters.

Relief at Q4 2017 GDP figures

Better than expected GDP figures for 2017 released today brought sighs of relief all round after an unquestionably tough year economically for South Africa.

China has seen an increase in outward investment by almost 1,500%* in a decade (2005 - 2015) according to the Knight Frank Wealth Report, 2016.

This is according to Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan who tabled the 2016 Budget during a joint sitting of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and the National Assembly, in Parliament, on Wednesday.

According to Instinctif Partners, the rapid acceleration in the depreciation of the South African exchange rate in December 2015 has widely been seen as evidence of South Africa’s poor macro policy and ultimately a reflection of worsened foreign investor sentiment following the controversial changes at the National Treasury.

In December 2015, the FNB House Price Index inflation rate continued its mild year-on-year growth uptick of recent months.
