Women empowered through Coega project

 

Bisho - The Eastern Cape government in conjunction with the Coega Development Corporation (CDC) ensures that women continue to be among the key beneficiaries of economic benefits of the multibillion Rand Coega project.

While Alcan is yet to commit to setting up an aluminium smelter at the Coega industrial development zone (IDZ), there are more than 40 other investors in the pipeline for this Eastern Cape IDZ, says Coega Development Corporation (CDC) spokesperson Vuyelwa Qinga-Vika.

 

 

Cape Town - Negotiations with Alcan of Canada on a scaled-down version of the proposed aluminium smelter at Coega were continuing, Lionel October, a deputy director-general in the department of trade and industry, said on Friday.

 

Durban - South Africa needed a port with deep-water access, and Coega was an important development in this regard, Ivan Heesom-Green, the chief executive of Safmarine, has said.

CEMENT producers have been caught off-guard by rapid growth in demand over the past year and SA may face a shortage of cement by 2007.
